What is offline mode? Offline mode allows users to run an application secured by Visual Guard, although the VG Repository is not accessible. User permissions are cached in an off-line store and updated when the application logs again in to the VG repository (Winforms).
We have 3-tier applications, one is for services. We do not see a good development practise in having data access libraries on the customer side - and now with VG it is compulsary - Is it possible to solve this procedure in another way? With the current version, you can secure Web Services without deploying data access libraries on the client, because VG libraries and data access libraries will be installed on your server with you Web Services. The data access library may be needed on the client when you w...
- We have several projects running in parallel. Several developers work on these projects. How does VG handle this? We have different requirements, how do we do?VG win console is installed on the desktop of each developers working on the security. Developer 1 will create the repository A (stored in Oracle DBMS, SQL server DBMS or encrypted files). Let’s say Developer 2 also needs to work on repository A. Developers 1 and 2 can work simultaneously on the same repository. Each one will connect to repository...
Can we use Visual Guard if we do not have direct database access when running the admin console?Visual Guard provides a web admin console. It allows you to manage users, groups and roles through the Internet without a direct access to the database. You would need a direct access only during the development phase, when creating the permissions.
Where is the repository stored? We are an ISV and we would need to figure out if it will be installed on our server, on the customers' servers ?The repository is stored in the database, and the database is either on your own server or on the customers database.
The data base in which information about roles and permissions is stored is proper to Visual Guard or can it also be created and stored in Oracle?VG.NET stores permissions in proprietary encrypted files, but it also supports SQL server and Oracle.
How does VG.NET to Manage Security Information ?Visual Guard .NET (VG.NET) stores security information in : • Windows Account Support for user sign-on & authentication (stored in Active Directory or any other similar system). • SQL Server support for users, permissions and roles storage • Oracle Support for users, permissions and roles storage • Proprietary encrypted files. This generates several possible combinations: • You may manage user information in AD, SQL Server, Oracle and VG.NET Encrypted Fil...
We want to integrate Visual Guard .Net in our software. Do we have to install something on the customers machines?Option one: your customers do not need a way to manage end users and roles => you just install your software, nothing else. Option two: your customers need a way to manage end users and roles. - If you use the console for this, you will have to deploy the console at customer sites - If you use the API to create your own administration form, you will have only your software to install.
Our current architecture is each client has an application but we are migrating to change that for the Saas environment. How will Visual Guard fit wit this?Visual Guard .net supports various combinations: 1- one application in Saas mode with a database and a Visual Guard repository per client 2- one application in Saas mode with a database per client and a central repository for all the clients. 3- One application installed on each client with its own database and its one Visual Guard repository.
VG functionally meets SAAS requirments However it is necessary to specify the technical details to ensure that VISUAL GUARD can be used. 1 Your setup is a what we call security Multi-Tenants with the delegation of administration rights of users to the client. see page of our site that addresses this topic: http://www.visual-guard.com/EN/net-powerbuilder-application-security-authentication-permission-access-control-rbac/secure-saas-and-multi-tenant-apps-with-asp-net-or-wcf-Silverlight.php [1] 2...
Is it possible to use Visual Guard for Cloud deployment? Yes it's possible. Visual Guard 5 secures applications deployed in the Cloud, in particular Azure. The main technical requirement for Cloud deployment are: * The application should be deployed in IIS 6 or 7 * The Visual Guard Repository should be stored in Oracle or SQL Server.
